An Update

Wow, what an imaginative title for this entry. First, here's an update on the Fiction Tribune projects:

  • The Fiction Staff position has been approved and people have been appointed. Congratulations go out to OPM Sithspawn, KP Windos Bruth'Kothae and OT Draken-Korin Vasarius Romanae.
  • The Fiction Archive has gotten off the ground with my initial call for submissions. Only a couple of people have sent their stuff in so far, but hopefully that number will increase. Send all submissions to dbfictiontribune [at] gmail [dot] com. Guidelines are in my previous post. OPM Sithspawn will be the project manager for the Archive.
  • Details of the Fiction Showcase are slowly being decided upon. At the moment, the Showcase will be a bi-monthly compilation of fiction from around the Brotherhood designed to show off the writers that haven't already been presented publicly - that is, haven't won awards for their writing or had it published in the DV. More details to come on this. OT Draken-Korin will be the project manager for the Fiction Showcase.
  • The Writer's Corner is currently in limbo. I will be discussing this with Anshar to get it moving properly again. For the moment, please hold off on any submissions. When everything is set up again, I (KPN Erinyes) will be the project manager for the Writer's Corner.
  • The Fiction Tribune webpage is coming along, with coding by KP Windos (who I keep mistyping as "Windows", please forgive me) and graphics by DA Dalthid. A link will be posted here when everything's ready. KP Windos will be the project manager for the Fiction Tribune site.
For my personal projects:
  • The Google Groups user's guide has been submitted for review and approval.
  • The Combat Basics course is coming. As a disclaimer, this course is not an ACC guide as some people have suggested. It is intended as an overview of the basic mechanics of personal combat. Official ACC guides are written only by the ACC Staff with the Combat Master's approval. Now, there's nothing saying you can't apply the knowledge in Combat Basics to the ACC, but again, it is not an offical ACC guide, mostly because I don't want to get in trouble with the ACC. There may be a Writer's Workshop about the ACC contributed by the ACC Staff, but no actual plans have been made for this.
  • For the sake of blowing my own horn, I won second place in the Pre-GJW ACCLive! Special this past weekend. Go me. :P
More updates will be posted here as they come. Stay tuned!

DB Fiction Archive

Alright, gang, here's the scoop. As Fiction Tribune, I've decided that it's my job to compile all of the winning fiction and poetry entries from various competitions, much the same way as the Krath Archives do - except more up-to-date. :P So! I'm putting a call out for submissions. However, they're only very specific submissions. Here's what I need:
  • Winners of MTs from May 2005 forward
  • Winners of Vendetta events from April 2005 forward
  • Winners of KHP competitions from April 2005 forward (character development comps, Murder Mystery League, etc.)
For those of you who want to submit but aren't in those categories, don't fret! The Tribune's Office will be coming out with a project for people like you in the beginning of June. Stay tuned!

For those of you who are submitting to the Archive, please send your submissions to dbfictiontribune [at] gmail [dot] com with the subject line "Submission for the Fiction Archive". Submissions will only be accepted in .doc or .rtf format. When submitting, please include your ID line and the event you are submitting for. Any submission that fails to meet these requirements will be ignored.

Thanks for listening, everyone, and we're looking forward to your writing!

Another One Bites The Dust

Woo. Fiction grading scheme for the GJW has been finished. *marks one more thing off the list*

One more down, eight million to go... such is the life of a DB Leader and full-time student.

Fiction Tribune's Graphics Competition - Results

The results are tallied and the medals are posted. The winner of this competition was DA Dalthid, who received a Crescent with Amethyst Star. Thanks to everyone who participated - there were some great entries, and it was difficult to pick one to win.

What's going on?

Lots of things have been happening in the Fiction Tribune's office this week. We're currently working on three major projects - a Fiction Archive, a Fiction Showcase and a series of Writer's Workshops. Further details on each of these will be forthcoming. A webpage is being developed for us as well, and will ideally be up before the beginning of the GJW.

Aside from this, I've been working on a few personal projects: an article for the Dark Voice, a course for Anshar, and the fiction grading scheme for the GJW. All of these will be done by the end of next week, I hope.

Anyhow, back to work. Stay tuned for more updates!

Fiction Archive

So. In preparation for the development of the Fiction Tribune's Archive, I've pulled the vast majority of the fiction contained in the Krath Archives so I can get it organised and added. Thanks to the krath.org people for hosting the site and leaving everything so neatly organised for me to read through.

More updates on what the fiction archive actually is will be forthcoming.

Fiction Tribune's Graphics Competition

As posted on the DB news page:

I'm holding a little graphics competition. Create a banner for what will be the Fiction Tribune's webpage. There aren't any size or style limits on the banners as long as they're as user-compatible as possible and okay for people under 18. The award for first place is a Crescent with Amethyst Star, and in addition to their Crescent for winning the competition, the winner will basically get a contract to design all of the graphics for my website. This won't happen until after the GJW, of course.

To enter, e-mail me ONE banner at chromaticerinyes[at] gmail [dot] com with the subject "Fiction Tribune's Graphics Competition". Anything sent without that subject line won't be counted, simply because my e-mail filter won't pick it up. The due date for this competition is Friday, May 19.

Forum Threads

The forum threads are up here and here.

Activities of the Fiction Tribune

Alright. Since I haven't actually discussed this at length with Jac and Goat, this is just a tentative collection of exactly what a Fiction Tribune does with her day.
  • First and foremost, she fights with her blog to get the right font settings for her posts.
  • Monthly Topics: As far as I know, I will be taking these on from now on, both fiction and poetry, and possibly graphics. As I announced on the DB news page, there won't be a montly topic for May, due to the ongoing Feuds and GJW.
  • Writer's Corner: I'll be speaking with Kaiann about exactly what he wants to do with this. Since it seems to make sense for the Fiction Tribune to work with it, I'll probably take it over, but I don't want to set anything in stone just yet. If (when) I do end up working with the Writer's Corner, there may be some large revamps coming through.
  • Fiction and Poetry Competitions: Aside from the monthly competitions, my goal will be to run one or two other competitions a month that will be accessible to the Brotherhood. In Vendetta months, of course, I'll just do the MTs. DJM Alanna has gracefully lent me her experience from her time as KHP, so I have a few ideas for those competitions already, but I would welcome more feedback.
  • A fiction archive. Goat and I have batted this idea back and forth and I think it's a good one. One of my projects will be to design and maintain a repository for all Brotherhood fiction, or at least, all fiction that's submitted to me. This will serve as a kind of counterpart to the DV.
  • Assisting Other Competitions and Projects: Since I do a lot of the fiction-type stuff, my job fits in quite well with what the Lord Hegemon does. Not only that, but I imagine I'll be recruited to grade fiction, poetry and run-ons in Vendetta events.
So, having put all that out there, what am I looking to accomplish in the next couple of weeks?
  • A webpage: I'm fairly inept with HTML and have no talent at all with graphics. I will likely be putting an announcement out on the DB news page requesting a graphics and web designer. If you do apply to be the web designer, be warned, I'll likely put you in charge of maintaining the page.
  • A thread on the Forums: This will be two threads, actually. The first will be asking about what competitions you'd like to see, and the second will be a general commentary on the state of fiction in the DB (what a can of worms that'll be).
  • Fiction Tribune Staff: Please note that at the moment, there are no "official" staff positions for the Tribunes, except Telona's DV Staff. Nonetheless, I will likely be looking to unofficially recruit one or two people to help me with these crazy projects I have in mind. If/when we get formal Tribune Assistant (or whatever) positions, I'll likely be filling those.
That's all from me for now. Oh, and happy Mother's Day!

Yes, I know, I'm behind the times.

Well, here's the blog of the Fiction Tribune. Exciting, isn't it? *Monty Python-style rejoicing*
The reasons I called it The Tribune's Word were (a) to monopolise the title from other Tribunes, (b) because it's going to be full of stuff that I say, and (c) because of the inevitable pun whenever you combine the word "word" and the Fiction Tribune.

... I promise, my humour will get better as time goes on.

For the moment, expect things to be coming out of my office in the next couple of weeks. This is going to be the main depository for announcements for Fiction Tribune stuff, while my posts on the main page will generally be restricted to competitions or openings for applications.

I'll put details about T:F activities in a separate post. For now, signing off.
