Updates

Well, it's been a while since I made an actual news post that didn't involve competition stuff, so here's some updates for everyone:

  • SW Kraval Novir was awarded a Star of Antei for his work on the Fiction Archive. Congratulations Kraval!
  • Unfortunately, Kraval has decided to step down from his post on the Fiction Staff due to other DB and RL commitments. Thanks for your help in everything, Krav, and best of luck in other pursuits.
  • Erinyes was promoted to Dark Side Adept. Now maybe she'll stop whining for a week or so. :P
In competitions:
  • The November MTs are running until tomorrow, November 30, at 11:59 PM EST. Details can be found here.
  • The Epic Competition is also running until Feb 1. Details can be found here.
  • The December MTs will be released on December 1. Watch the DB news page (or this blog) for more details.
  • There will be some kind of festive competition coming from the Fiction Tribune's office, probably running for the week of Christmas and the weeks immediately before and after. Watch here for more details.
In projects:
  • With Kraval's departure, Erinyes will tentatively be taking over the Fiction Archive stuff.
  • A new "Writer's Workshop" is going to be developed by the Tribune's Office. The Workshop will be a course for people who are seriously interested in improving their skills at writing short stories. Watch the blog for more details.
There, that's everything for now. Stay tuned for more updates!

Competition Reminder - November MTs Close Tomorrow!

Hey gang,

There are two Fiction Tribune competitions running that I want to remind everyone about. First is the November Monthly Topics, which closes tomorrow at 11:59 PST (that's 2:59 EST). Details on that comp can be found here.

Also, the first month of the Epic Competition has passed, with two months remaining. Remember the minimum entry for that competition is ten pages. Details can be seen here.

Good luck to all who participate!

October MT Results

Without further ado, here are the results for the October Monthly Topics:

Fiction

First Place: Kel Tavik
Second Place: Vodo Biask
Third Place: Aristan Dantes

Poetry

First Place: Muz
Second Place: Troutrooper
Third Place: Etah

Graphics

First Place: Ricco Vao
Second Place: Raken

I would like to note in these results that the vast majority of entries were initially disqualified for not having both ID line and PIN included in the body of the e-mail. However, seeing the prevalence with which this error was made, I decided to allow those entries to be counted - this time. As of the November MTs, any member who submits to the MTs without including both their ID line and PIN will have their entry disqualified. Please keep this in mind when submitting your entries.

Medals will be submitted for the winners. Congratulations!

Fiction Tribune's Epic Competition

Another competition out of the Fiction Tribune's office, and one we haven't seen in a while. Today marks the release of the Fiction Tribune's Epic Competition. For those of you who are not familiar with epic competitions, an epic competition is a fiction competition with entries of significantly larger size than usual. These competitions also take place over a much longer period of time.

Your theme for the epic competiition submission may be anything that is both DB-related and features your character. However, I will only accept submissions that take place since joining the DB - you're welcome to post your character histories at the Writer's Corner (go here and read Anshar's pinned topic), but epic competition submissions should be relatively more recent.

Submissions to the epic competition must be a minimum of ten pages long - anything less than this will be disqualified. All entries should be sent to dbfictiontribune@gmail.com with the subject Epic Competition and including your ID line and PIN in the body of the e-mail. Because of the very involved nature of the writing, the deadline for this competition is Wednesday, January 31. I will be marking this competition personally, so unlike most Fiction Tribune competitions, the Fiction Staff are eligible to participate. By the way, the awards for this competition will be First-level Crescents - yes, whichever of you sends me the best submission will be receiving a Crescent with Diamond Star.

The Competitions Listing entry for this competition is here.

So, get your keyboards warmed up and start writing!

October and November MTs

Alright, here's the scoop on the Monthy Topics. November's Monthly Topic is "Training". Training is an integral part of a Dark Jedi's life. It is only through training that we can both remain in peak shape and learn new aspects of the Force. While there are surely many different schools of thought within the Dark Brotherhood that pertain to training, please describe your own for us. This can take the form of a specific past training experience, or as a more general description of a typical training day.

As usual, there will be fiction, poetry and graphics divisions. Fiction should be minimum 1.5 pages at TNR or Arial 12-point (or equivalent), poetry is freestyle and graphics should be no larger than 800x600. The MTs will run until Thursday, November 30. Submissions should be sent to dbfictiontribune [at] gmail [dot] com with the subject November MTs and including your ID line and PIN in the body of the e-mail. Any submission which does not meet ALL of the relevant criteria, including the addition of your ID line and PIN to the submission e-mail, will be disqualified.

Now, a word about the October MTs: Because I started the October MTs late, the due date has been extended to this Saturday, November 4. For more details about the October MTs, go here.
